In high rise compounds

In high rise compounds

Examples range from 2 to 40 towers which can be clustered or merged. In our sample, number of dwellings vary from 100 to 3250. The type generally appears in areas undergoing intense densification.

By increasing the population, these compact enclaves immediately affect the city pattern, testing the limits of the city infrastructure and services. Today, their underground and ground level connections are designed to replicate single towers. Although some use commercial plinths that create a higher level of interaction with the surrounding urbanity, the introversion of the compound is taken for granted.

By further exploring the connections and disconnections between towers at underground and ground levels, their capacity for urban introversion and extroversion could be exploited. At this scale, it is possible to think of operations that either exacerbate its enclave condition (city within a city or satellite city) or on the contrary, completely blur the compound boundaries and rethink each tower individually in order to exploit their different urban conditions.
